2.5.X Kernels:

The ncr53c8xx and sym53c8xx drivers are obsolete and will 

be removed from the 2.5 kernel tree.  The sym53c8xx_2 driver 

must be used.  The sym53c8xx_2 driver is bundled. 



2.4.17 + Kernels:

=============



A new driver, sym53c8xx_2, driver has been added to the kernel.

This driver obsoletes the ncr53c8xx and sym53c8xx drivers.  

The sym53c8xx_2 driver supports all of the 53C8XX family of 

parts and is the ONLY 53C8XX driver being maintained.



2.4.0 - 2.4.16 Kernels:

===================



All 53C8XX parts, except the 53C1010, is supported by the 

bundled ncr53c8xx driver.  This driver may be used for boot (install).



The 53C1010 part is supported by the sym53c8xx driver.  

This driver ALSO supports all of the 53C8XX parts that 

support the "Load and Store" scripts.  An excerpt from 

the driver readme file,

README.ncr53c8xx,  is below.



The sym53c8xx driver should be loaded prior to the ncr53c8xx 

driver during install.





2.2.X Kernels:

==========



All 53C8XX parts, except the 53C1010, is supported by 

the bundled ncr53c8xx driver.  This driver is the default 

driver for parts supported by the sym53c8xx _and_ ncr53c8xx 

drivers.  The ncr53c8xx driver may be used for boot (install).



The 53C1010 part is supported by the sym53c8xx driver.  

This driver ALSO supports all of the 53C8XX parts that
